CONCERNED ABOUT

I have been working in Nepal and came across an orphanage concept being implemented by Global Family Village.

As we all know due to the global economic meltdown there has been a substantial cut back in funding coming from large private and institutional donors. Therefore the reason for this blog. I want to see for myself "the power and glogl reach of the Internet".

Global Family Village is not an orphanage in the usual sense. what it does is partner with existing orphanages to implement their program, which in a nut shell is as follows.

It all starts with saying "it takes a village to raise a child"

What does that mean,

It means, every aspect of a child's life belongs to the life of the village, from birth to death, weather or not the child stays or roams, home is always their village.

How is it achieved,

It is achieved by creating a family centered orphanage weather it's for one family or one hundred families, that will function as a family within an existing community, a village. each family consists of 8 to 12 children of all ages and gender, a trained mother and a grandparent. This family unit uses all the facilities a community has to offer. the schools, the shops, the health post, the recreational facilities, etc. they become an integral part of the community.

What are the benefits,

The benefits are two fold.

First, the orphanage makes available to the community, on it's premises, a state of the art Child Care Day Center, a nursery and a kindergarten and first grade program.

Second, since the older children from the orphanage will be going to the local government schools, the orphanage will work with those schools to upgrade their facilities.

Global family Village has an agreement with the Central Child Welfare Board in Nepal. They will be donating land and existing buildings to help implement their program. They have also received private donations and Rotary matching grants.

I am not a wealthy man by any means, but I can spare $5 to $25 the cost of 1 or 5 Starbucks Frapachinos for a cause, I know, will make a difference, "it's all about the children".

This is not a scam, check it out, go to http://www.globalfamilyvillage.co/ a registered 501,C3, your donations are tax deductible.

Please go to their web site and donate, as I said, "it's all about the children"
